KEY STAGE 2. HISTORICAL COSTUMED WORKSHOPS
Tudors
Henry VIII
We meet Henry VIII as a young man around the time of his divorce from Catherine of Aragon. He plays tennis at Hampton Court, he composes his famous song "Greensleeves", and he teaches the children a Tudor dance. We then meet Henry VIII again as an older man reflecting on the break with Rome and his many marriages. He paints a portrait of his favourite wife. He teaches the children a hunting song called "The Hunt Is Up", he shows the children a hunting horn and then plays a tune on the harpsichord. The actor then appears and tells the children about the costume of Henry VIII and the Tudor Court. There is an opportunity for a child to try on a Tudor costume. We come away with an impression of Henry VIII as a true Renaissance man.
