KEY STAGE 2. HISTORICAL COSTUMED WORKSHOPS

Victorians
Queen Victoria

We meet Queen Victoria towards the end of her reign, reflecting on her life with Albert, her children, and the changes she has seen in Britain and abroad during her sixty year reign. She talks about the Empire, Florence Nightingale, and the Crimean War, and the important inventors of her reign. She dresses two children up as her servants, and one child as Florence Nightingale herself. The children are taught a Victorian song and some children are taught the Polka (a popular Victorian dance). We come away with an impression of the true nature of Queen Victoria; the doting wife and grandmother, not always the stern and fearful character that we are often led to believe.
